How to Measure Tire Tread Depth

1. Press the measuring scale fully into the gauge body.
2. Place the metal probe vertically into the centre of a main circumferential tire groove.
3. Press the flat base down until it rests against the tire tread surface.
4. Lift the gauge straight up by the barrel without moving the measuring scale, then read the result.
5. Repeat the check at several points around the tire and across the inner, centre and outer grooves.
6. Use the lowest reading when assessing uneven wear. Have the tire inspected by a qualified tire professional if wear is uneven or the tread is approaching the applicable replacement limit.
